This picture was supposed to be used for an ID that turned into a glamor type portrait. I guess I’m just looking for reasons to shoot.
The set-up was fairly easy — 1 softbox on top and 1 reflector below to bounce the light. 1 softbox to light the background to make editing easy.
Personally, I think that the exposure is around +1/3, give or take, on the highlights. With some make up and what not this would’ve been perfect.

I know a number of photographers who, once they’ve bought their external flashes, would stop exploring the various usage of that powerful light. I’m saddened by the fact that they’re already content with using their flashes on-board their camera and not realizing their little speedlites can do more than that.
Speedlites these days can be triggered without them having to be on top of your camera and that’s one of the strengths of today’s technology. Furthermore, if you’re using your camera’s proprietary speedlite, you enjoy the benefit of letting the camera adjust the power of the flash for you.
I love the versatility and the quality of light the small speedlites give me. I can have a studio in the middle of the forest, at the beach, or anywhere else for that matter. You don’t have to lug around long cables and heavy equipment to set up your lights. You can place them in small places and make a big difference in your photo.
For comparison, I made an impromptu shoot during work and took different shots of my friend using flash (so forgive me for the extremely horrible portraits) and here’s what happened: More

I was in my prof’s seminar today to help out as his assistant called in sick. It was the third and last day of his seminar so there was also the customary class picture. More

Punta De Uian Main Hotel/Lobby
We went back up to Punta de Uian today, April 7, 2009, to shoot some more new rooms — the duplex and the triplex as content to their site. There’s also the unfinished chapel which is a shame because I wanted to take a shot of the interior. However, the place is not yet done and there are ‘x’ marks on the glasses still and what not.
Now, I’m still clueless which photography specialty I would like to really get into but it seems that real estate photography is nice. I like the challenge of using flash and the ambient light, you should be able to balance the 2 to get a well-lit photo. Being creative is key to getting the proper set up and I love the challenge it gives.

2 speedlites placed inside the lampshade balanced with the ambient light.

ambient light as main light. 1 speedlight placed inside the capiz lampshade and 1 handheld speedlite as fill light for the room.

Went to Zambales last week to shoot a resort. It was just an overnight stay and there were lots of stuff to cover so we had to move quick. There wasn’t much fun to be had, but it didn’t mean that we didn’t have any fun at all. More

It’s fun working with Jose Nepomuceno and I’m grateful that I get to shoot his and his friends’ creations once again. It’s been a fun and tiring day of shooting and by the end of the day, most of us never had any energy left. I hope that I get to work with him again.

Got the chance to shoot some gowns by Jose Nepomuceno et al a few weeks ago.
Strobist info: Set up was pretty simple and varied when we got started but for the latter set I used 2 flashes on a shoot thru umbrella to illuminate the face and the dress and 1 bare flash at model’s right side back to light the hair and as separation/kicker light.
